The One That Got Away

Mr. Wenger has a keen eye for spotting young talented players and in his three decades as a manager can be credited for spotting and developing many great talents and world stars around Europe. Thierry Henry, Nicholas Anelka, Dennis Bergkamp, Cesc Fabregas just to name  few are some of the players the professor has found and turned into world beaters. Saying every young player that plays under him will instantly be a success is an obvious lie, he's also been known to let go of players he deems aren't up to his standards and promising talents like Denilson, Carlos Vela and Nicklaus Bendtner are some examples of players that couldn't quite please Le Proffesseur and in all those instances, he was spot on and even made profit on some of them players.

In this man, however,  this feeling that he might have for it wrong this time. Even before his step up to the Premiere League from the Championship, he was already making a name for himself.
After signing a professional contract with Arsenal in 2010, he was shipped off to Huddersfield town, then Reading, Bolton, Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday then Mk Dons and finally permanently moved to Wolverhampton Rovers where he had an instant impact on the championship, scoring 22 goals in 46 league outings. His success at the championship attracted interest from the Premiere league and earned himself a club record £12m move to Bournemouth and he will face off against his former employers.
Afobe has all the qualities to succeed in the premiere league, is energetic and can improve this team mused Eddie Howe at his recent signing and if things went differently, he would have actually lined up against Bournemouth. He's so far scored three goals in his first four outings for the Cherries and there's definitely more to come.
Afobe is the typical Arsenal Striker, Strong in the air, good with his back to goal, good hold up play and a good finisher. In a season where Arsenal were struggling for goals at some point, his industry would have definitely improved the situation of the team. A player like him would have benefited from Mesut Ozil's key passes and would be a different kind of player to Giroud and Theo.
It might be too soon to assume he's going to go on to become a World star like the others Wenger approved of but at a time when Arsenal are struggling to score and have gone on a four game goalless spell, Benik Afobe would have definitely been better at Arsenal.
